Hackney Carriage Driver and Vehicle Licences

Driver

A Hackney Carriage Driver's licence will only allow you to drive vehicles licensed as Hackney Carriages. A Hackney Carriage Vehicle can ply for hire in the streets or pick up passengers on the designated taxi ranks situated throughout the District.

Vehicle

A Hackney Carriage Vehicle can ply for hire in the streets or pick up passengers on the designated taxi ranks situated throughout the District. And can only be driven by a person holding a Hackney Carriage Drivers Licence.

Private Hire Driver, Vehicle and Operator's Licences

Driver

A Private Hire Driver's licence will only allow you to drive vehicles licensed as Private Hire. A Private Hire vehicle by Law is not permitted to pick up passengers unless a booking has been previously made with the company operating the vehicle.
