BUSINESS AND EMPLOYMENT
Maldon District Council places a great importance on Business & Employment issues in the District.

One of the Council's corporate objectives is 'Improving the prosperity of the District through future economic strength and stability'.
The Five Lakes resort, Tolleshunt D'Arcy

The Maldon District may have a reputation as a sleepy laid-back part of the world, ideal as an antidote to the stresses of the modern day lifestyle and who are we to argue? But when it comes to business, things are a little different. By all means come and enjoy the benefits of everything the area has to offer, but rest assured we take our business very seriously.

Well-known for the innovative success of its companies, the Maldon District is proud to be the business choice of a wide range of businesses.

Hi-tech manufacturing companies successfully competing in the global marketplace, a modern four star hotel and conference centre with unrivalled leisure facilities, including two 18 hole golf courses, and a global freight specialist are but a few of the area's success stories. And yes, you can take it with a pinch of salt - Maldon Salt, much loved by chefs around the world, has been manufactured here since 1882.

Among the many reasons why entrepreneurs have chosen the District as their base is the fact that our commercial property is excellent value for money.

You may be surprised to know that there are over 2500 businesses in the Maldon District. Nearly 90% of those employ 1-10 people so there is obviously the need to help these companies survive as they are the ones that usually need the most support, advice and assistance.

With the significant majority of businesses employing under 10 people (89% in 2001), the Maldon District is in a strong position to grow in the future through expansion of 'home grown' businesses, continued support for 'start up' businesses and attracting further inward investment for which Maldon District Council has been successful. Whilst there is a core base of business sectors that play a significant role in the local economy, the overall range of businesses in the District demonstrates that it is a successful location for business of all types.
