The Blackwater Rail Trail follows the route of the disused Maldon to Witham railway line which closed in 1966. It is managed as a linear country park by Essex County Council.
The trail can be joined at a number of points, but Heybride is probably the most convenient due to ease of access and the presence of nearby facilities. The trail starts by the entrance to Elms Farm Park off Heybridge Approach.
