Elms Farm Park was created in the mid 1990's as a new country park as part of a large housing development on the edge of Heybridge. The site is quite diverse consisting as it does of meadows, rank vegetation, scrub, trees, wet ditches and open water. The man-made lake and island make up about one third of the site.

The north east boundary of the site is adjacent to the Blackwater Rail Trail which is managed as a linear country park by Essex County Council. Walkers can follow this path all the way to Witham or take the canal path which forms the south western boundary of the site giving walking options to Chelmsford (12miles) or Heybridge Basin (2miles). There are also good footpath links to Heybridge and Maldon Town Centre.

The site is managed primarily for the benefit of wildlife in partnership with the Elms Farm Park Conservation Group. For details see our Friends Group page.

Facilities include all weather paths and a number of seats near the lake. In 2007 a circular route was marked out with timber posts with a yellow band. This route is just over 1000m long and starts and finishes just inside the main entrance gate.

Please note that there is no parking in the immediate vicinity of the site but it is only a five to ten minute walk from the Tesco store which is well served by a free park and ride bus. The number 288 bus operates between the Blackwater Leisure Centre and the Tesco store via Maldon High Street between 9am and 6pm Monday to Saturday.
