Promenade Park

Promenade Park has the widest range of facilities of any park in the Maldon District. This, coupled with its stunning location overlooking the River Blackwater means that it is also the most popular park with over 300,000 visitors a year.

The park was opened in 1895 to provide the people of Maldon with a valuable amenity. 'The Prom' as it is known locally, is a great place to walk or sit and watch the activity on the river and always makes for a great family day out. 

Current facilities include:-

  • Ornamental lake.
  • Amphitheatre and open air stage suitable for hosting theatrical productions and concerts.
  • Splash Park water play facility - open from late spring through to the Autumn dependant on weather conditions.
  • Play galleon and fort.
  • Aerial runway.
  • Model boating and crabbing lake. 
  • Three large sand pits, one with water play equipment.
  • Children's play area and a children's maze.
  • Skateboard ramps.
  • Demonstration wildlife garden.
  • Petanque terrain.
  • Riverside walk offering views of the estuary and its abundant wildlife.
  • Dedicated picnic areas with picnic tables.
  • Six separate retail outlets for refreshments and other merchandise.
  • Formal gardens with a pergola, shrub borders, an Anglia in Bloom award winning drought garden, three dimensional carpet bedding displays, and many floral borders.
  • Formal pitches (football, cricket, tennis courts) and additional provision for netball and basketball.
  • Changing rooms.
  • Three seperate toilet blocks, including disabled facilities.
  • Car parking (pay and display), including designated disabled parking spaces and a separate coach park and drop off point.

A new BMX area is currently under construction and should be completed by the end of August 2008.
