Personal Watercraft Registration
Every Personal Watercraft user that uses/crosses Council owned/managed launching areas, will first need to register the craft with each respective launch site/ caravan site or Holiday park.

For more information contact the River Bailiff on 01621 854477, or by filling in our online Contact the River Bailiff e-form.

Registration
To obtain registration, a fee will need to be paid, and the registering Officer will have to ensure proof of identity and proof of adequate insurance cover.

Access for Personal Watercrafts will not be allowed to any of the Council's beaches if the owner has not registered the craft prior to launching, or if the registration has been withdrawn.

The AA/AB identification number must be visible in bold lettering on both sides of the craft. Launch sites may require that craft display registration marks identifying that particular launch site.

Minimum insurance cover will be Third Party £1 million.

Age Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a Personal Watercraft.
Be 15 to 17, and possess a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Certificate of Competence and operate under direct adult supervision.
The definition of "supervision" is such that the adult is present on the craft.
Under 12 - not allowed to operate a Personal Watercraft.

Speed Restrictions
A Speed Limit Byelaw exists throughout the entire River Blackwater which restricts the speed of all vessels to 8 knots ( 10 miles per hour) within 250 metres of the shore.

This byelaw also prevents access to the saltmarsh, Oyster layings and other such habitats. Fines will be imposed on those who exceed the byelaw restrictions.

Notes
Boating under the influence of drink, or drugs is not permitted.
