Essex Active Sport

Maldon District Council is part of the Essex Active Sport Partnership which involves all local authorities in Essex and 9 National Governing Bodies of Sport.  The programme is part funded by these partners and significantly by Sport England.

The 5 year programme is aimed at creating sporting pathways for young people with a good knowledge in a certain sport to progress, access competition and become a club member. 

Active Sport also aims to provide:

• More trained coaches
• Easier access to sport
• Increased opportunities
• Accredited sports clubs

The nine sports involved are Netball, Rugby, Hockey, Basketball, Girls Football, Cricket, Swimming, Athletics and Tennis.

A variety of activity is organised throughout the District in these sports, examples include:

• Yr 5 & 6 mixed mini-hockey festival for schools
• 10 week basketball coaching programme for Yr 7 & 8 boys/girls
• Rugby coaching in schools and transfer to club sessions
• 10 week netball coaching programme for Yr 7 & 8 girls
• Girls football festival for Yr 7, 8, 9 & 10.

One role of the Maldon District Council is to provide local people with a list of up to date contacts for sports clubs and activity sessions within the area.  This Directory is compiled from clubs and associations that respond to our mailouts and is by no means a comprehensive list of all the clubs in the District.
