Swimming Profile by Mr Dyer, Maldon District Resident

When Maldon District Council offered me the opportunity to enrol for swimming lessons as part of the NHS Mid Essex Swimming initiative, I decided to take up swimming lessons as I had a fear of water. I had never tried to learn to swim before, so this offer was the start of my journey. My first lesson was frightening as I did not want to go in the water. My tutor Monica came over and put me at ease, and after a short chat and with her help she encouraged me to take my time to enter the swimming pool. After a while she had me going down the steps and into the water something I never thought possible. Monica took away my fear and replaced it with confidence. I am still having lessons and my fear of water has gone.

I would like to thank Maldon District Council for giving me the opportunity to learn to swim.

Adult Swimming Lessons Promotion

I am really pleased that I had the opportunity to take part in the adult beginners swimming lessons promotion run by Maldon District Council as part of the Free Public Swimming Initiative at the Blackwater Leisure Centre in Maldon.

Myself and my partner wanted to take up swimming lessons so we could take our children swimming. The swimming lessons were excellent, and the benefits of this class included being in a small class with other adults who could not swim; the teacher was very good; and the timing of the evening lesson enabled us to attend together.

I would definitely recommend the swimming lessons as we have gained water confidence and have seen progress in our ability. This is a very big achievement, and we will be continuing with our swimming lessons in the future.
