Landlords Information

If you are a landlord you may have tenant's who are entitled to help towards paying their rent

If your tenant makes a claim for Housing Benefit, they may need to ask you for more information about their tenancy.

Your tenant will need to provide us with information about their tenancy, which includes:

  • The date the tenancy began
  • The date on which they moved in
  • The amount of rent charged
  • Details of the items included in the rent
  • The number of rooms in the property
  • A tenancy agreement or letter from the landlord which confirms the details of the tenancy

Benefit can be paid directly to a landlord if :

  • The tenant requests it, or
  • The tenant is in arrears of an amount equivalent to 8 weeks or more, or
  • If an amount of Income Support or Jobseekers Allowance is payable to the tenant or partner is being paid to pay towards rent arrears

The amount of Benefit the landlord will receive will be the amount that their tenant is entitled to receive.  This may not be the amount charged and so the tenant is responsible for paying the difference.  Landlords who receive their tenants benefit direct will receive a letter to confirm how much money is payable, but we cannot discuss any details of the tenants claim with their landlord unless written confirmation is received from the tenant giving their Authority to discuss.
