Valuation Bands
The amount you have to pay depends on the value of your property. Each property is placed in a valuation band between band A (low value) and band H (high value) as shown in the table below.

A Up to 40,000
B 40,001 52,000
C 52,001 68,000
D 68,001 88,000
E 88,001 120,000
F 120,001 160,000
G 160,001 320,000
H 320,001 And above


Appealing against your Valuation Band
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) values properties for Council Tax. The VOA is part of the Inland Revenue.

If you want to appeal against your valuation, please write to: District Valuation Officer, Inland Revenue Valuation Office 34 Southway Colchester Essex CO2 7BB.

You can also telephone 01206 287100.

For Council Tax, properties are valued at the amount which they would have been expected to sell for on the open market on 1st April 1991. Your valuation band for your property is shown on your bill.
