The amount you have to pay depends on the value of your property. Each property is placed in a valuation band between band A (low value) and band H (high value) as shown in the table below.

Appealing against your Valuation Band
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) values properties for Council Tax. The VOA is part of the Inland Revenue.

For Council Tax, properties are valued at the amount which they would have been expected to sell for on the open market on 1st April 1991. Your valuation band for your property is shown on your bill.
