How to Pay

You can pay your council tax or non-domestic business rates in the following ways:



Direct Debit

What's in it for me?
  • Payment dates are not overlooked
  • No need to write out cheques
  • No unnecessary trips to the Post Office, Bank or elsewhere
  • Budgeting and cash flow can be planned effectively
  • No need to complete a new instruction each year

To apply for Direct Debit, please download the form in the Download Area.

Safeguards

  • If an error does occur, you will be reimbursed immediately and without question by your bank
  • Any variations to amounts and/or payment dates will be notified in advance, allowing time for you to respond.

The Direct Debit Guarantee
This Guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building societies that take part in the Direct Debit Scheme. The efficiency and security of the Scheme is monitored and protected by your own Bank or Building Society.

If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, Maldon District Council will notify you in 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.

If an error is made by Maldon District Council or your Bank or Building Society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your Bank or Building Society. Please also send a copy of your letter to the Council Tax Section, Maldon District Council, Princes Road, Maldon, Essex, CM9 5DL.

You can call our Customer Contact Centre on 01621 854477. Housing Benefit Overpayments is also payable using this method.

Post
Please send cheques or postal orders made payable to Maldon District Council and quote your payment reference number and address on the reverse.

If you require a receipt please provide a stamped addressed envelope with your payment. 

Post dated cheques are not accepted.

Fill in the form issued by the Post Office ensuring that you enter your payment reference number and our Giro account number which is 305 7127. There may be a charge for using this service.
