Introducing the Community Grant Scheme
The Community Grant Scheme provides a source of funding aimed at improving the quality of life for the residents of the Maldon District in accordance with the stated objectives of the Community Plan.
There are two types of grants available – Small Grants and Specific Project Grants. Only one grant will be awarded per financial year to any individual or organisation. We can award grants of up to £5,000.

Funding Projects
We can help to fund projects that enable people to benefit from improved community safety; health, social care and housing; transport and access; education, training and employment; environment and planning; leisure and recreation.

Who can apply?
We look forward to receiving applications from individuals and groups such as voluntary and non-profit making organisations, parish/town councils and village hall management committees.
Those eligible will either be based or living in the Maldon District, or providing services for residents of the District.

Deadlines for grant applications
The grants are considered on a quarterly basis. Although you can apply for a grant and request an application form at any time, it is important to take note of the deadlines for receipt of completed applications.

Small grants
You can apply if you are:
- a voluntary or non profit making organisation meeting a need for local facilities and/or services
- are an organisation concerned with social issues such as the environment and conservation
- need a grant up to a maximum of £500 to assist with revenue support.

Specific Project Grants
Applications can be considered from a Parish/Town Council or Village Hall Management Committee providing sport and recreation facilities, to provide, improve, equip and repair village halls and other community facilities (not routine maintenance or redecoration).
Please note grants to town / parish councils and village hall management committees will be limited to a maximum of 50% of the project costs (except for small parishes of less than 250 band D equivalent properties where the maximum grant will be 75%).
In all other cases the amount of grant approved will be determined by how the project meets the objectives of the Community Plan and the funding priorities identified by the Council each year.
Voluntary, recreation, sporting, arts, heritage, play organisations or an events organiser
Grants are available:
- to buy equipment (some elements of revenue based funding may be approved for arts functions and special events)
- to an individual participating in sport at County Level or above (third party evidence required from a coach) aiming to achieve higher standards.
- to an individual taking part in an expedition or similar to learn about cultural, environmental or cultural issues, normally abroad, developing leadership to or similar skills applicable in their chosen careers (courses taken as part of the normal or further education curriculum are not eligible)
- to a Luncheon Club or Day Centre to assist with support costs.

How Do I Apply?
You can apply for a community grant by filling in our application form. This can be done by:

What happens next?
Your application will be assessed by Members of the Community Services Committee. The Committee will consider:
- Your aims or the aims of the organisation that you represent
- The aims and objectives of the project
- The total cost of the project
- The amount of grant requested
- How the grant will be used
- How the project relates to the Council's stated objectives and funding priorities
- How the community of the Maldon District will benefit from the project
- Details of other funding secured or applied for
- The arrangements for project management
Following the decision taken by Members of the Community Services Committee, we will write to you to let you know if your application has been successful, including any special conditions that might have been attached to your award.
