Animal Boarding Establishments

If you run a boarding establishment for either dogs or cats, you will need a licence from the Council.

How do I get a licence?

If you would like more information about the process or to apply for a licence including renewal on-line, click here.

Alternatively, you can print the application form in the download area and send it to the Council on completion.

When you apply for the licence, an authorised officer from the Council will inspect the premises to ensure that you are complying with licence conditions (available in the download area).  A vet will also visit to assess the health and welfare of the dogs and / or cats (the cost of the vet is re-charged to the business).

The Council will issue the licence if the business complies with the licensing conditions issued under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963.

Licences need to be renewed annually.

A list of animal boarding establishments within the Maldon District is available in the download area.

If you require further information or would like to make a complaint about a cattery or kennel, contact the Council or complete the online request form.
