If you run a boarding establishment for either dogs or cats, you will need a licence from the Council. How do I get a licence? When you apply for the licence, an authorised officer from the Council will inspect the premises to ensure that you are complying with licence conditions (available in the download area). A vet will also visit to assess the health and welfare of the dogs and / or cats (the cost of the vet is re-charged to the business). The Council will issue the licence if the business complies with the licencing conditions issued under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963. Which catteries or kennels are licensed? If a boarding establishment is licensed, it means that an authorised Council officer has inspected the premises and that it complies with licence conditions - these checks ensure that the welfare of the animals is protected during their stay. If you require further information or would like to make a complaint about a cattery or kennel please contact the Council or complete the online request form. |
