Every year Maldon District Council receives numerous complaints about dog fouling from concerned residents and visitors to the District. This anti social behaviour by a small minority of dog owners, as well as being extremely unpleasant, can cause serious health problems including blindness.
Under the Control of Dogs Order 1992, it is an offence for any person in charge of a dog not to remove faeces after a dog has defecated on open public spaces. Officers can serve fixed penalty notices for £80 to offenders and if the case is referred to the Magistrates' Court, the maximum fine is £1000.
Anyone found to be guilty of an offence under this Order could be liable to fine of up to £1,000, however, the offence can be discharged by payment of a fixed penalty notice of £80.
A copy of the Order and the map of where it applies to can be found in the download area, however, should you have any questions please contact us on 01621 854477.
