The Local Agenda 21 strategy was Maldon District Council's first vision of how it could stimulate the process of sustainable development within the district. The strategy deals with all aspects of sustainable development themes such as protecting the environment, encouraging social progress, getting our own house in order, the prudent use of natural resources and maintaining stable economic growth.
In 2006/07 Maldon District Council reviewed its performance on sustainable development and created an Environmental Position Statement charting;
- objectives for tackling environmental impact
- its implemtented actions to reduce environmental impact
- and its future actions to maintain its progress on environmental issues.
Since creating this Local Agenda 21 Strategy Maldon District Council's role and resources have varied and so has the national and international focus on sustainable development.
This has meant that sustainable development, although still an aspiration, is now incorporated as much as possible into Maldon District Council's services and corporate actions. For more information on this please see the Maldon District Council Environmental Statement
