Healthy Eating is about getting the right balance of all the different food groups. So, this means having a variety of foods in your diet, basing meals around starchy foods and eating at least five portions of fruit and veg a day. It also involves having moderate amounts of meat, fish and alternatives; having moderate amounts of milk and dairy food; having small or only occasional amounts of food high in fat, especially saturated fat, or foods and drinks high in sugar, or foods high in salt. Today, more and more consumers are looking for healthier options and with so much food being prepared and eaten out of the home, some responsibility falls on those who provide catering services to members of the public. Therefore, Maldon District Council is working with various businesses around the district to assist them in creating a healthier menu. This is done by advising each business on steps they can take to reduce the amount of unhealthy food they offer. If businesses succeed in creating a healthier menu for their customers then they could be eligible for either a Silver or Gold award. Aside from receiving a framed certificate, businesses will be advertised on the Council’s website and in the Tourist Information Centre. There may even be the possibility of a press release. If you would like any further information, or are interested in participating in the scheme then please contact us. Cds Sandwiches and Salads Maldon
