FACING THE FUTURE

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK CORE STRATEGY

SECOND ISSUES AND OPTIONS CONSULTATION

A Sustainable Framework for the Future
Maldon District Council is drawing up a new framework to guide the future of the District up to 2021. Facing the Future is the new Sustainable Community Strategy for Maldon District and the Local Development Framework will take this forward as a spatial plan as part of the new planning system introduced by the Government. The Core Strategy will be the lead document for this new framework.

Core Strategy Issues and Options (CSIO) Consultations
Consultation on issues and options is the first stage of the Core Strategy and in March 2007 and September 2007 Maldon District Council undertook two major consultations about the issues and options that should be addressed in the Core Strategy – referred to in brief as CSIO 1 and CSIO 2. The report of the responses to CSIO 2 has been put in the download area of this web site together with the consultation documents.

Your chance to comment on the CSIO 2 Consultation Report

The Council has a policy for how consultations are carried out which is set out in it’s Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). In accordance with the SCI the CSIO2 Consultation Report is being published here both in order to provide feedback to interested people about what the consultation responses said and to also allow the opportunity for anyone who wants to comment on the way the consultation was carried out to do so.

If you do have any comments on the way that the CSIO 2 consultation was carried out please send them to Policy@maldon.gov.uk

What happens next?

There will be a further Core Strategy Issues and Options consultation - CSIO 3 -  in order to address issues and options that could not be dealt with in either of the two previous consultations. These include a Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) and some other additional informative work – some of which is currently on-going.

Subject to the completion of related work and Member approval to proceed in accordance with a revised timetable for the Core Strategy this third consultation will take place in March/April 2008. After the responses to that consultation have been considered the Council will be able to confirm the draft Preferred Options and publish these for further consultation. After this both the draft preferred Options and the Council’s proposed responses to the comments it has received can be submitted to the Regional Government Office with a view to them being examined in public by a duly appointed Inspector. The end of the whole process is currently anticipated in early to mid 2009.

If you would like further information about this programme please contact the Council's Spatial Planning Team either by e mail at policy@maldon.gov.uk or by telephoning 01621 876202. The lead officer for this consultation is John Ware - Interim Spatial Planning and Implementation Manager
