Supplementary Planning Guidance - Access to Buildings

Introduction
It is a strategic objective of Maldon District Council to create a sustainable and accessible environment in which living, working and leisure encourages pride in the District, recognising its important historic qualities.

The Local Plan defines accessibility as; "Recognising the need for access for all potential users regardless of age, disability, gender, religion or financial circumstances to enable people to reach their destination by a choice of means of transport"

The purpose of this Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is to encourage all parties involved in the planning and development process to recognise the benefits of, and bring about, inclusive design to ensure that no individual or group is disadvantage by our built environment.

What do I need to do?
The consultation process for this SPD closed on the 20th of November 2006.

The Council will consider the responses and amend the SPD accordingly. It is anticipated that adoption of this SPD will take place in late December.

Copies of the draft SPD and its Sustainability Appraisal are available from the Download Area.
