The District Council formerly had a legal responsibility to prepare a Local Plan for its area. The Local Plan sets out the District Council's policies and proposals for the use and development of land in the future. The Local Plan is used by the District Council to help it make decisions on the planning applications it receives.
On 3rd November 2005 Maldon District Council adopted its Replacement Local Plan which together with the Essex and Southend-on-Sea Replacement Structure Plan and the Essex Minerals and Waste Local Plans (prepared by Essex County Council) comprise the statutory development plan for the Maldon District.
