Development Plan

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 establishes a new system of local development planning.  It was recognised that preparing the Local Development Plan would take some time, so arrangements were put in place to 'save' some of the policies of the Maldon District Replacement Local Plan.

Maldon District Council made an application to the Secretary of State to save a number of its Local Plan policies which reflected the principles of its emerging Local Development Plan but did not simply repeat national policy.

The Secretary of State responded with a Direction that came into effect on 3 November 2008. Only those policies that have been specified as part of the Direction now form part of the Replacement Local Plan Saved Policies and all other policies cease to be relevant for development control purposes.
