How will the service operate?
Maldon District Council will operate this service in partnership with our contractors. There are currently only a limited number of places on this scheme. Households can register an interest by contacting the Council and leaving their details and when a bin is available they will be contacted. An annual fee will be payable and a wheelie bin will then be delivered.  Collections will be made every week from March to November and fortnightly from December to February.

To guarantee collection, wheelie bins will need to be placed on the front boundary of your property by 7am on the morning of collection. Only bins supplied and registered by Maldon District Council will be emptied.

Garden waste will be taken for composting at a local composting facility operated by Appleton Contracts in Tolleshunt Major.

Unfortunately there are a small number of properties for which the garden waste vehicle will not be able to access.

Will the other green waste services still operate?
All other green waste services that currently operate will continue alongside this scheme. Garden waste can be taken to central parish locations for the Saturday green waste collection service.

Garden waste can also be taken to Civic Amenity sites at Park Drive, Maldon and Springfield Road, Burnham-on-Crouch. These services will continue to operate free of charge.

Green sacks will also continue to be sold at Maldon Town Council Offices, Joyces in Burnham-on-Crouch and Southminster Parish Rooms, Queensborough Road. A charge of 75p per bag is made and these bags need to be booked in for collection with our waste management team.

This service is only for the composting of green garden waste. No cardboard can be put in the wheelie bin. However, small cardboard can be put in the blue recycling box and egg boxes and some shredded card can be put into HOME composters. If you would like more information on home composting please click here.

Will waste put out in green sacks be composted?
The garden waste collected in official Maldon District Council green bags is composted with the garden waste collected on the wheelie bin collection round.

Can I put raw kitchen waste into the green waste bin?
Unfortunately not, due to the way in which our garden waste is composted legislation says that we have to keep kitchen and garden waste separate. Therefore we will not be collecting kitchen waste for composting. However, you can still put vegetable peelings in your home compost bin. << back to top
