Highways

Maldon District Council currently has no particular highways functions or responsibilities.  Essex County Council is the highway authority and provides local highways services on an operational basis for the Maldon District through an Area Office at Springfield, Chelmsford.  Strategic and policy issues are dealt with at County Hall Chelmsford.

The way in which the Highways and Transportation Service in Essex is delivered changed during 2004/5.  Local Service Agreements with each District are intended to provide consistency of decision making across the County.  The District Council is consulted by the County Council on a wide range of matters and, as part of a close working arrangement with the Area Highways Manager, now has greater influence on decisions affecting the local road network.  This new form of partnership between the County and District Councils is also designed to offer a seamless service to the public.

At present, all enquiries, complaints, reports of defects etc. can be reported online to Essex County Council by clicking here.
