How Are We Doing?

Results from the first 6 months of the year have shown that Maldon District Council’s performance in dealing with fly-tipping is classed as “Very Effective” by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Fly tipping

In real terms this means that there has been an increase in the number of actions taken and a decrease in the number of incidents of fly tipping.  This is good news for local residents who will benefit from the cleaner environment, but there is still an opportunity to reduce this further and subsequently the cost burden on the Council. Please contact us if you have any information regarding a fly tip. This information can assist us with a successful prosecution and help drive down the number of fly tips even further.

Street Scene

We are also measured annually by how clean our streets are. Last year we achieve 98% of roads at Grade B, (the required standard) including litter and detritus (natural resident such as dust, dirt, sticks). As a rural district this is normally where the 2% of roads fail to make the grade.

Further Improvement

To further improve all our services we need your help.  We are always open to suggestions regarding litter and dog bins, abandoned vehicles, our street cleansing service and what better ways to operate.

Keeping the district clean and an enjoyable place to live has many benefits to the quality of life in this district. If you feel we can improve in any way please contact us on 01621 854477.

Service Standards

To ensure we keep to our high standards we have set service standards - the service that you can expect to receive from us.

·         Target initial response to all other service requests is five working days

·         Stray dogs - First response time (telephone call to complainant or visit) 1 hour, substantive response (visit to area or agreed meeting time with recovered stray) 4 hours

·         Abandoned vehicles – investigated with 24 hours of being notified and removed within 24 hours of the expiration of the Abandoned Vehicle Notice.

·         Fly tipping – Investigate reported fly tips with 5 days of being notified and ensure its removal within 24 hours of the investigation (this applies to relevant highways, footpaths, Council controlled car parks or other defined areas.

There are many ways to improve the appearance of the district but it is the responsibility of all the residents to ensure this happens. If you would like to report on any issue regarding the cleanliness of the streets, fly tipping, litter, dogs or abandoned vehicles please contact Maldon District Council on 01621 854477 or fill in our online form by clicking here.
