In a recent 'Quality of Life in the 21st Century' survey undertaken by national consultants Experian, the Maldon District was ranked 53rd out of the 376 English local authority areas.

This placed the District in the top 15% of local authority areas for their quality of life.  This was based on employment prospects, disposable income, fear of crime, schools' performance, road congestion, population density, affordability of housing and access to quality retail and leisure amenities.

Within the County of Essex, the Maldon District ranked second, with the next highest placed Essex authority ranked at 93rd
