Governance of Your Council
The Maldon District Council formally started work on 1st April 1974. This new authority was formed by merging three existing authorities under the Local Government Act 1972. Those authorities were the ancient Borough of Maldon; the Maldon Rural District Council; and the Burnham-on-Crouch Urban District Council.

Governance of the Maldon District Council
In accordance with the alternative arrangements under the Local Government Act 2000, Maldon District Council has decided on a system of a single Overview and Scrutiny Committee, a Standards Committee, three main committees and three Area Planning Committees.
