Parliamentary Elections
The present Member of Parliament for the Maldon and East Chelmsford Constituency is John Whittingdale, OBE (Conservative).

The Prime Minister can call a general election at any time, although one must be held at least every five years.

The last general election was held in 2005, and the results for the Maldon and East Chelmsford Constituency can be found here

Changes to the Maldon and East Chelmsford Constituency
At present Maldon District is situated within the Maldon and East Chelmsford constituency. This constituency is mostly made up of the whole district and takes in part of the Chelmsford Borough.

The Boundary Commission for England has now completed its review of all the Essex constituencies which will affect the present boundaries. As a result of the review, after the next Parliamentary election, the Maldon District will be represented by two MPs.

There will be a Maldon Constituency which will largely consist of the Maldon District and part of Chelmsford Borough Council's administrative area.

The northern part of the Maldon District will become part of the proposed new Witham Constituency, most of which falls within the administrative area of Braintree District Council.
