"To promote a diverse sustainable and vibrant local economy"
We want to ensure a thriving and vibrant local economy - vital to the success of any district. Maldon District Council is committed to helping local businesses as we recognise that our businesses contribute to the prosperity of our District.
We provide ongoing support and advice to businesses seeking to set up, expand or relocate into the area.
The needs of our businesses vary and we use a careful balance of traditional and new measures to give the most comprehensive and successful service. The economic development officer works with partners in both the public and private sectors. Other council departments support businesses - organising initiatives to encourage recycling and conserve energy, and designing policies to maintain industrial land and buildings as well as affordable housing.
The Maldon District hosts a wide range of businesses. Hi-tech manufacturing companies successfully compete in the global marketplace, a modern four star hotel and conference centre with unrivalled leisure facilities, including two 18 hole golf courses, and a global freight specialist are but a few of the area's success stories. Maldon Salt, much loved by chefs around the world, has been manufactured here since 1882.
One of the many reasons why entrepreneurs have chosen the District as their base, is that our commercial property is excellent value for money.
You may be surprised to know that there are over 2,500 businesses in the Maldon District. Nearly 90% of those employ 1-10 people.
With the significant majority of businesses employing under 10 people, the Maldon District is in a strong position to grow in the future through expansion of 'home grown' businesses.
If you need any further help or advice please contact the economic development officer on 01621 854477 or email busdev@maldon.gov.uk
