Information and advice
Our building control service has the responsibility to investigate all alleged dangerous buildings and structures in the Maldon District.
What is a dangerous structure?
Potential dangerous structures can develop from neglected garden walls, loose roof tiles, fire damaged buildings, vehicle impact on buildings, unstable chimneys and numerous other hazards.

You can contact us to report a dangerous structure during office hours.

Information to be provided
When contacting us we will need the following information:

Address of the dangerous structure

Precise description of what you consider to be dangerous and its location on the address

Any information known about the site ownership or access details that might help us in dealing with the complaint

Your name and contact number so that we can advise you of the action taken (optional)
What happens next?
We will respond immediately to any report of a suspected dangerous structure. We will visit the site, assess the need for urgent action and make the necessary arrangements to have the risk removed or the site made safe.
If there is no immediate danger then we will contact the owner of the building or structure, as it is usually their responsibility to ensure their property is maintained and in a safe condition.
Failure to respond to requests to remedy dangerous buildings or structures may result in enforcement action being taken in accordance with the Building Act 1984 S.77.
