Published on Monday 13th June 2011
The Chairman of Maldon District Council, Cllr Robert J S Long will be hosting an Armed Forces Day event on Monday 20 June at 10am in the car park of the District Council Offices in Princes Rd, Maldon.
The event commences at 10am and there will be a variety of military vehicles on display and personnel dressed in military uniform from the various conflicts, related displays and a Piper. Serving personnel from 16 Medical Regiment at Colchester Garrison have also confirmed they will be attending with a collection of vehicles.
Once again we are delighted to be supported by the Combined Military Services Museum in Maldon and Stow Maries Aerodrome both of which illustrate the importance of our armed forces.
Following a welcome speech by the Chairman of the Council, there will be a blessing from Father Louis Darrant from St Mary's Church, Maldon and 2 minutes silence, before the 'Raising of the Flag' ceremony which will take place at 10.30am. Subject to the weather we hope to have a fly-past in vintage planes at 10.45am.
This year the event will also celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion and representatives from the local Royal British Legion will be in attendance. Members of the public, veterans, serving members of the armed forces and their families are all most welcome to attend.
As parking is restricted at the Council offices, visitors and guests are asked to park in either Butt Lane Car Park or High Street East Car Park. Both these car parks are only a short walk from the Council offices and are pay and display.
