999 Emergency Services Day
Published on Wednesday 6th July 2011
Special military guests will be joining the exciting line up at one of the Maldon District's biggest and most popular events.
The Maldon District Community Safety Partnership is pleased to announce soldiers from the 16 Medical Regiment, based in Colchester , will be attending 999 Emergency Services Day, in Promenade Park , Maldon, on Sunday July 17 2011 .
The soldiers, who recently returned home from a tour of Afghanistan , will be bringing along a battlefield ambulance amongst other vehicles and will be able to talk to visitors about their duties on the frontline and what they do.
There will also be a wealth of other things to see and do at the event, which provides a unique insight into the world and work of the emergency services, and this year sees the show move to a new location within Promenade Park .
The family fun day, organised by the Maldon District Community Safety Partnership, will be held in the park's events field, which is next to the football pitches in front of the coach park. It promises to have something for everyone of all ages to enjoy. Entry is free and the fun starts at 12.30pm and runs through to 4.30pm .
Representatives from Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, East of England Ambulance Service, the Royal National Lifeboat Association (RNLI), Essex Air Ambulance - with mascot Pilot Pete - and many more agencies will all be on hand to give advice and talk to visitors about community safety and what their jobs involve.
Lauren Hockney, Community Safety Development Officer at Maldon District Council, is organising this year's show.
She said: "We are really looking forward to 999 Day and very excited to welcome 16 Medical Regiment to Maldon as well as our other attendees.
"The aim is for everyone to enjoy themselves but it's also about raising awareness about the important work carried out by the emergency services and to highlight what members of the public can do to combat community safety issues in the Maldon District."
The event will be opened by Assistant Chief Constable of Essex Police, Sue Harrison, and displays throughout the day will include an all new river rescue scenario, which is being organised and co-ordinated by officers from the Burnham based Essex Police Marine Unit and West Mersea RNLI. A mock arrest scenario will also be carried out by Essex Police and for the first time at 999 Day, crowds will be entertained by the Essex Zumba Babes, led by local instructor Joani St Cliere , from Mayland, and Team Kinetix, from Chelmsford , will be returning to thrill the crowd with their exciting acrobatic routines.
The Maldon 1207 Air Cadets will also be carrying out a special drill marathon during the day. They will be demonstrating drill sequences and marching non stop for eight hours, between 10am and 6pm . The three groups of cadets aim to raise the profile of the air training corp, in Maldon, and raise some much needed funds for the group.
Horses and officers from the Essex Police mounted section will be attending, along with dog handlers and their furry companions from the police dog unit in Sandon. It is also hoped Essex Air Ambulance and the Essex Police helicopters will land in the park, giving young and old alike a rare opportunity to speak to the crews and take a look inside the aircrafts.
Please note the timetable of events and attendees present on the day are all subject to change due to the emergency services' operational duties. For more information contact Lauren Hockney at Maldon District Council on 01621 875794.
