Don't lose your vote in 2012
Published on Monday 12th September 2011
Voter registration forms have been dropped through letterboxes across the Maldon District - return yours as soon as possible if you have not already done so, to make sure you are able to vote.
Your local Electoral Registration Officer, Fiona Marshall and her staff have sent forms to households in and around Maldon during August to update the electoral register. If you haven’t received your form you can call 01621 854477 or print one off at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.
Fiona Marshall said: “Registering to vote is very simple. All you have to do is update the annual canvass form with the details of everyone in your household who is eligible to vote and return it to us as soon as possible. If your details haven’t changed you can also reply by freephone or by internet.
“There was much interest in this year’s referendum on the UK voting system and we were pleased with the increase in registration shortly before polling day. However, some people may not realise that they have to register every year. Only 54% of households have registered so far, so we urge those who have not already registered to respond to the reminders being sent out during the next few days.
“It is important for you to complete and return the registration form so that you are able to take part in elections held.”
On your electoral registration form, you can opt to have your details excluded from the edited register. This will mean individuals and commercial organisations cannot buy your details.
