More value for money in the Council's car parks

Published on Wednesday 28th September 2011

All of the pay and display machines in Council managed car parks are to be upgraded.

Drivers will benefit from a new linear ticketing system which gives them exactly what they pay for with the opportunity to pay by debit and credit cards.  A linear ticket gives the customer the amount of time paid for.  For example: Promenade Park Car Park costs £1 for 1 hour and £2 for two hours.  Previously if the customer paid £1.50 they would only have received one hour's parking; with the new machines the customer will receive an hour and a half.

The pay and display tickets will also be adhesive backed so that they stick to the windscreen.

The White Horse Lane, Butt Lane, Friary Fields, High Street East and Promenade Park Pay & Display Machines will all be replaced over the period 26 September - 18 October 2011.

Councillor Mrs Harker, Chairman of the District Council's Community Services Committee, said: "The Council has listened to feedback to improve the service provided and make it more user-friendly."
