Support for Voluntary and Community Organisations
The Maldon District has a wealth of voluntary groups and organisations with expertise in many subjects. We provide support to some of these organisations by way of the provision of accommodation and the availability of meeting places.
We own 2 sites which provide accommodation and meeting facilities for the voluntary sector, Brickhouse Farm Community Centre, Poulton Close, Maldon and St Cedd's House, Princes Road, Maldon. West Maldon Community Centre, Sunbury Way, Maldon is run as a Community Association hiring out rooms for functions to local groups.
Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service
Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service provides help and support to voluntary groups within the District including the provision of training, assistance with grant applications and access to a resource centre which includes a meeting facility. A volunteer centre to match volunteers with opportunities is also provided.
They also run the Maldon Community Transport Scheme previously known as 'Viking'.
The need for volunteering is ever more present due to Mr Cameron's vision of the Big Society.
Good for Essex
Another way to register an interest to volunteer is to visit the Good for Essex website, which is hosted by Essex County Council.
Maldon and District Citizens Advice Bureau
Maldon and District Citizen's Advice Bureau has a service level agreement with us for provision of core services and outreach to the community. They are based at St Cedd's House, Princes Road, Maldon.
The Compact is a 3 tier document which is delivered at national, county and local level. It contains codes of conduct for fair treatment in negotiations between the voluntary sector and statutory partners. We have signed the Essex Compact. For details of the Local Compact, please contact Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service.
The Localism Bill aims to bring new rights and powers to both communities and individuals and it should become law by April 2012. Many departments across the Council will be working in different ways to accommodate the threads of the Localism Agenda such as Community Right to Buy. A plain English guide to the Localism Bill is available from the Department of Communities and Local Government website.
Parish Clerks Forum
We facilitate a quarterly forum for information sharing which is specifically for the Parish Clerks employed by the 31 parishes in the District.
Fifty Plus Forum - The Chairman of the Fifty Plus Forum is Janet Cloke and she can be contacted by emailing email@example.com. We often facilitate events on behalf of this group.
One Place - There are many organisations that provide services for the more vulnerable in society and one such organisation is the One Place.
We facilitate bi monthly meetings of the Youth Council. These meetings are held in partnership with Essex County Council Youth officers and take place after school hours at the Youth Centres at the Maldon Activity Centre, Carmelite Way, Maldon and at One Place, High Street, Burnham on Crouch. The Youth Council work on community projects and get involved in the democratic process through considering committee reports. Young people can gain accreditation through experiences with the Youth Council.
We do not currently provide direct funding for clubs and organisations. Essex County Council provide capital and revenue streams including for Parish Councils via their Big Fund.
The Big Lottery Fund is also a major source of funding for groups and organisations in this area, particularly the Awards for All Scheme.
The Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service will undertake funding searches on behalf of voluntary organisations.
