Description

Maldon District Council is seeking to employ a suitably qualified and experienced Homelessness Officer to cover maternity leave for up to 9 months. 

The post holder will be required to prevent and relieve homelessness in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act (2017).

We are looking for an experienced homelessness officer with a good knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002) and Part 6 of the Housing Act 1996.

The post holder will be expected to manage a customer caseload and provide support to other members of the team.

About this role

The role will involve interviewing customers who are threatened with homelessness or homeless and giving advice and assistance to prevent homelessness.

The successful candidate will need to make enquiries to establish applicants’ circumstances and produce written decisions in line with Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996.

The role will involve liaising with statutory and voluntary agencies to prevent homelessness.

In addition to a good knowledge of relevant Housing legislation the post holder will have a good knowledge of caselaw, the Homelessness Code of Guidance and housing related benefits and have good customer care skills.

The successful candidate will need to record all actions in the housing database. 

The post holder will be required to take part in an out of hours telephone advice duty rota out for which an allowance will be paid.
