Description
We are looking for a dedicated and committed individual to join our busy Parks and Countryside Team. You will be working to provide a high level of service to our residents and service user by helping us to maintain the grounds and infrastructure of our 25 parks and open spaces across our District. These include the flagship sites of Promenade Park in Maldon & Riverside Park in Burnham on Crouch.
The Parks & Countryside team’s “annualised hours” means working 29 hours per week October to March, increasing to 46 hours per week during April to September, which are paid monthly at an average of 38 hours/week across the year (April to March). Between September 24 to end of March 25 only, the successful candidate will be expected to work a 38 hour week which will vary from the rest of the team due to the way annualised hours are calculated. Please familiarise yourself with this and feel free to ask any questions on this before applying if you are unsure.
The role will also require you to work regular weekends/bank holidays as part of the team rota, with occasional additional paid hours available to support major events and Council activities.
Full training, uniform and PPE will be provided as part of these roles.
About this role
The ideal candidate will have the desirable competencies listed below, although training will be given both to meet the basic skill/qualifications and as ongoing professional development.
- Work in partnership with others to achieve high standards of grounds maintenance.
- Organise own working methods within guidelines to ensure safe working and adherence with health & safety procedures/instructions.
- Operate basic machinery and driving of vehicles.
- Undertake general gardening and grounds maintenance duties which may include:
- Bin emptying and litter picking at MDC sites across the district.
- Grass cutting duties including strimming and pedestrian mowing.
- Hedge trimming and clearing of arisings.
- Weeding and flower bed maintenance.
- Leaf clearance.
- Overmarking of sports pitches.
- Basic maintenance of vehicles and equipment safety checks.
In order to carry out this role, you will need to hold a full driving licence and be able to meet or obtain via training the qualifications/experience as listed within the Job Description.
