REFUSE COLLECTIONS
ISSUE RESPONSE ACTION
Use of a non-Maldon District Council bin Non-Maldon District Council bins will not be emptied. The MDC bins are the appropriate specification for the lifting equipment on the vehicles. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door and residents will have to make own arrangements for emptying
Side waste presented Additional bags of rubbish beside the bin will not be collected. The only exception is for polystyrene which should be placed in a black bag and marked "polystyrene". Additional waste should be put in the bin for emptying next time or taken to the recycling centre for household waste.
Too full lid - doesn't shut This will be emptied in the first two weeks of the service however it will not be thereafter. Over filled bins cause a problem with the lifting mechanism and will spill. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door don't over fill the bin next time.
Too heavy If a bin is too heavy it usually means it contains non-household waste, e.g. soil or rubble. It is dangerous to lift an overweight bin, so it will not be emptied, a sticker will be put on it. Resident should remove the contamination and leave the bin at a suitable weight
Extra unauthorised bin presented If a resident has got hold of a second wheeled bin via an unauthorised means it will be emptied and removed. Only present authorised bins.
Refuse in pink sacks If the pink sacks have been used for refuse and not for recycling and are put in the wheeled bin the bin will not be emptied. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door and residents will have to make own arrangements for emptying
Not on boundary All bins should be placed on the boundary of property, unless they are on an approved Assisted Collection. It will be emptied if this happens in the first two weeks, thereafter it will be left. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door and resident must leave it on the boundary thereafter.
Black sacks presented instead of bin These will be taken away for the first occasion but not thereafter. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door, resident to contact the council if they don't have a bin.
Pink sacks presented with refuse in Pink sacks are for recycling, they will be left if they contain refuse. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door and residents will have to make own arrangements for disposing of sacks.
No bin presented If the bin is not presented it will not be emptied.

RECYCLING COLLECTIONS
Not on boundary All containers should be placed on the boundary of property, unless they are on an approved Assisted Collection. Recycling will be collected if this happens in the first two weeks, thereafter it will be left. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door and resident must leave it on the boundary thereafter.
No recycling presented If sacks and or blue box are not presented they will not be collected.  
Contaminated
E.g. glass or other in pink sack
Pink recycling sacks that contain the incorrect recyclable items will not be collected. A sticker will be applied to the sack advising the resident of the issue and the incorrect item(s) will need to be removed before the next collection.
Recycling in wrong containers, e.g. paper and card in black box etc. If recycling has been presented in the wrong containers it will be taken if this happens in the first two weeks, thereafter it will be left A card advising of the problem will be put through the door. Resident to contact the Council if they do not have the appropriate sacks or box.
Glass recycling box too heavy. If a glass recycling box is too heavy, it is too dangerous to lift, so it will not be emptied. If you recycle a lot of glass and need an extra box this can be ordered via our online customer portal.
Food collection issues and our response
FOOD COLLECTIONS

Not on boundary

All containers should be placed on the boundary of property, unless they are on an approved Assisted Collection. Food waste will be collected if this happens in the first two weeks, thereafter it will be left. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door and resident must leave it on the boundary thereafter.
Not presented If food recycling bins are not presented they will not be collected.  
Contaminated Food recycling bins that contain items that are not food waste will not be emptied. A sticker will be applied to the food waste recycling bin advising resident of the issue. The contamination will need to be removed before the next collection.
Garden waste collection issues and our response
GARDEN WASTE
Not on boundary All containers should be placed on the boundary of property, unless they are on an approved Assisted Collection. Garden waste will be collected if this happens in the first two weeks, thereafter it will be left. A card advising of the problem will be put through the door and resident must leave it on the boundary thereafter.
Not presented If the bin is not presented it will not be emptied.  
Contaminated Green wheeled bins that contain items that are not recyclable via our green waste subscription service will not be emptied. A sticker will be applied to the green wheeled bin advising resident of the issue. The contamination will need to be removed before the next collection.
Unauthorised container If a resident has got hold of a second green wheeled bin via an unauthorised means it will be emptied and removed. Only present authorised bins.
