Covid Additional Relief and Support Grant
Additional Relief Fund
On 25 March 2020 the Government announced a new COVID-19 Additional Relief Fund (CARF) of £1.5 billion. The fund will be available to support those businesses affected by the pandemic but that are ineligible for existing support linked to business rates.
Local Authority Guidance was provided in December 2021.
We are currently reviewing this and any policies or processes that are needed to distribute the funding. Further information will be made available as soon as possible.
Additional Support for Businesses impacted by Omicron
On 21 December 2021 the Government announced that additional support is being made available for businesses that have been impacted by the Omicron variant.
We are currently reviewing this and our policies and processes that are needed to distribute the funding.
An application form for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure grant will be available later this week.
Further information on the Additional Restriction Grant Funding will be made available as soon as possible.

Business Adaptation Grant
Additional Restrictions Grants
Maldon District Council has distributed some of this Additional Restrictions Grant funding to local businesses who were previously eligible for the Local Restrictions Support Grant.
the amount of the payment being made will vary from business to business as it is a % share of the remaining funding (ARG and ABS) , based on the business size.
Letters have been sent to eligible businesses to confirm the details.
Distribution of remaining funding is under review and details of any further distribution plans will be provided in due course.
Additional Restrictions Grant - Licenced Taxi and Private Hire Drivers
A one-off grant of £400 is available to support Taxi and private hire drivers who hold a current Licence issued by Maldon District Council.
Taxi and Private hire drivers who live in the District but who are licensed by another Authority but are ineligible for any other COVID grant schemes may also qualify.
This scheme is now closed
Additional Restrictions Grant - Businesses not eligible under other schemes
Grants for other businesses that were/were not required to close but have been severely impacted as a result of the higher level of restrictions (Tier 2 and above) that have ongoing business costs are available.
This scheme is currently not open for new applications
Essex Business Support Grants
Essex County Council has allocated additional Funding for business support Grants to other businesses in Essex that were/were not required to close but have been severely impacted as a result of the higher level of restrictions AND are ineligible for support under other National/Local Grant Schemes. This funding will be administered through the Additional Restriction Grant policy/application arrangements.

Closed Business Lockdown Grant
These grants are to support businesses that are in the rating list for Business Rates and have a rateable value and who were required to close from 5 January 2021.

Local Restrictions Grant (Open/Closed) - for rated businesses whose trade has been severely impacted by restrictions or who have been required to close
These grants are to support businesses that are in the rating list for Business Rates and have a rateable value, as grants are awarded based on the rateable value of the business.
Local Restrictions Grant (Open) - for businesses NOT legally required to close
This grant is prioritised for supporting businesses in the hospitality, hotel, bed & breakfast, and leisure sectors.
Examples of hospitality, leisure, and accommodation businesses (these are not definitive)
Cafes, restaurants, pubs, takeaways
Leisure centres, gyms, pools, golf courses,
Play centres, art galleries, museums,
Personal care facilities such as hair, tanning and nail salons, tattoo, and massage parlours.
In order to be eligible your business must:
- occupy a property which is in the rating list for business rates at the qualifying date and have a business rates account
- not have been legally required to close but have been significantly impacted by COVID-19 restrictions
- grant amounts are shown in the tables below are fixed

Local Restrictions Grant (Closed) - for businesses legally required to close
This grant is to support businesses that are in the rating list for Business Rates and have a rateable value, as grants are awarded based on the rateable value of the business
In order to be eligible your business must:
- have a business rates account, have been legally required to close (for example non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses) and have been significantly impacted by lockdown restrictions for the period of local entitlement 05 November 2020 to 02 December 2020 (National Lockdown).
Businesses not eligible for a Localised Restrictions Grant (Closed)

Businesses that have been able to continue to trade because they do not depend on providing in-person services and can work remotely such as accountants and solicitors are not eligible for this grant.

Businesses will have to make an application, provide satisfactory evidence, and satisfy state aid/subsidy rules. Any grant award received is subject to HMRC tax conditions.

Restart Grant
The Government will provide ‘Restart Grants’ in England of up to £6,000 per premises for non-essential retail businesses and up to £18,000 per premises for hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym businesses, giving them the cash certainty, they need to plan ahead and safely relaunch trading over the coming months.

Licensed Taxi Drivers - This scheme is being funded from additional restrictions grant funding and is now closed for new applications
Local Restrictions Support Grants (Open and Closed businesses) This scheme closed on the 31 March 2021
Closed Business Lockdown Payment This scheme closed on the 31 March 2021
Christmas Support Payment for Wet led pubs - The £1000 one off grant scheme for pubs that generate less than 50% of their income from food sales has now closed.
Small Business Grants and Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grants - Applications can no longer be accepted as all of the schemes are now closed.
- Our third discretionary grant application window closed on Sunday 9th August.
- The first application period closed at midnight on 19 June 2020 and
- The second application period closed at midnight on 8 July 2020.
