COVID-19 business grants

In response to the Coronavirus the Government has announced that businesses losing income as a result of regulations imposed by central government may be eligible for support.

Our small team are working as fast as we can to enable the delivery of these programs and payment of the grants. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding.

The following grant programmes are currently open to applications...

  • Localised Restrictions Grants (Open) – For impacted businesses NOT legally required to close between 17 October and 4 November 2020 and from 2 December 2020. (Tier 2)

  • Localised Restrictions Grant (Closed) - for businesses legally required to close from 5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020 (National Lockdown)

  • Essex Adaptation Grant Scheme – for eligible businesses experiencing added pressures owing to High local Covid alert level (Tier 2) to enable them to continue to operate safely

  • Christmas Support Payment for Wet led pubs – for eligible businesses that less than 50% of their income from food sales

We are awaiting further information to enable us to respond to the move to T3 and you do not need to contact us again at this time if you have previously applied for a Local Restrictions grant.

Localised Restrictions Grant (Open) - for businesses NOT legally required to close from 17 October 2020

This grant is to support businesses in the hospitality, hotel, bed & breakfast and leisure sectors.

Period of entitlement to claim is from 17 October  2020.

In order to be eligible your business must:

  • occupy a property which is in the rating list for business rates and have a business rates account;
  • not have been legally required to close but have been significantly impacted by COVID-19 restrictions

Localised Restrictions Grant (Closed) - for businesses legally required to close from 5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020 (National Lockdown)

This grant is to support businesses that are in the rating list for Business Rates and have a rateable value, as grants are awarded based on the rateable value of the business.

Period of entitlement to claim is from 5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020.

In order to be eligible your business must:

  • have a business rates account, have been legally required to close (for example non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses) and have been significantly impacted by lockdown restrictions for the period of local entitlement 05 November 2020 to 02 December 2020 (National Lockdown).

Essex Adaptation Grant Scheme

The Essex Business Adaptation Grant scheme was announced in November by Essex County Council (ECC). The scheme will supply capital grants of up to £1,500 to local businesses experiencing added pressures since Essex was placed into the High local Covid alert level by the government. This grant will help businesses carry out adjustments to enable them to continue to operate safely.   The funding available to Maldon District Council to support businesss within our District is £154,000

Christmas Support Payment for Wet led pubs

The grant was announced on 1 December and will provide one off grants of £1000 to eligible pubs that derive less than 50% of their income from food sales.

Guidance on this scheme has been provided and we are now in a position to accept applications for the grant.

Applications for Small Business Grants and Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grants can no longer be accepted as all of the schemes are now closed.

  • Our third discretionary grant application window closed on Sunday 9th August. 
  • The first application period closed at midnight on 19 June 2020 and
  • the second application period closed at midnight on 8 July 2020.
