Councillor R.G. Boyce MBE appointed Council’s Armed Forces Champion

Cllr Susan Barker Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Customer at Essex County Council recently wrote to the Leaders of all the Essex Councils and invited them to consider the appointment of a Member Champion for the Armed Forces Covenant for Essex.

Following this request, Maldon District Council has appointed Councillor R.G. Boyce MBE, Chairman of the Community Services Committee, as the Armed Forces Champion.  Councillor Boyce endorsed the statement made by Councillor Barker as follows “The armed forces covenant for Essex is our partnership commitment to ensure that those who have served their country as part of our armed forces are treated fairly. So often members of our armed forces make great sacrifices for their country and with such a large military presence in Essex it is essential that we work collaboratively to ensure our military communities are fully supported and not disadvantaged. This includes those who have, or currently serve as part of the army, marines, navy, air force or any other armed forces personnel, and their families.”

Councillor Boyce  added “Together we can ensure that members of the armed forces community receive the assistance they need in their local communities, in recognition of their dedication, and we can raise public understanding and awareness of the issues affecting the armed forces community”.
