North Heybridge Garden Suburb – Flood Alleviation

Maldon District Council wish to provide clarification about a proposed flood alleviation scheme in North Heybridge, which will form an integral part of one of the LDP strategic development sites.

The Council want to reiterate that it continues to work hard with the developer - Countryside Properties (who will be funding the capital costs for a flood alleviation scheme – not the Environment Agency), the Environment Agency and Essex County Council, as the lead flood authority, to ensure the right scheme is delivered to mitigate against the existing flooding problems in parts of Heybridge.    This has always been the Council’s intention.

Notwithstanding the LDP Planning Inspectors conclusion that a flood alleviation scheme “should not form part of the policy,” the Council secured agreement with the developer that they will provide – and fund - a flood alleviation scheme.  This was clearly stated in the Council’s report and the developer’s Planning Application (OUT/MAL/15/00419 ) was approved in December 2016.
