Maldon District Council Supports Local Smoking Cessation Service

Published on Tuesday, 1st May 2018

An e-cigarette shop in Maldon has become the first vape shop in the District to offer a stop smoking service to residents.

The Vape Shop in Bright’s Path has signed Provide’s smoking cessation contract and will work in partnership with them, Maldon District Council and Essex County Council to support clients wishing to quit, through provision of one to one support and e-cigarette intervention.

Donna Porter from Provide has supported Vape Shop owners Phil and Christina to gain their Level Two Smoking Cessation qualification and will use their new expertise to provide support to local individuals wishing to quit.

Cllr Bob Boyce MBE, Chairman of the District Council’s Community Services Committee, said; “My family have had first-hand experience of the damage that smoking can do, so I am delighted to support this initiative aimed at reducing the numbers of those who are at risk of smoking related diseases and ultimately I hope they will quit smoking completely.”

Cllr Boyce added; “One of the Council’s key corporate activities is ‘strengthening communities to be safe, active and healthy’ and I am pleased that The Vape Hut has taken this opportunity to support our health partners in improving the health of our residents.”

Ben Page, Maldon District Council Health Improvement Officer, said; “Smoking remains one of the biggest causes off ill health and every year around 100,000 people in the UK die from smoking.  We are working closely with our Public Health Colleagues at Essex County Council to find innovative ways of helping people to quit.”
