The Maldon District Design Guide has been shortlisted for the Planning Awards 2018 in the Placemaking category and the Award for Design Excellence.
To be shortlisted, the Maldon District Design Guide has successfully demonstrated that it will improve the physical or environmental quality of a place; uses high quality design to create excellent prospects for improvement; displays originality and the potential for long-lasting impact.
The Design Guide was prepared to meet the challenge of significant housing growth in the District over the next 10 years. It will deliver design quality in all development proposals and ensure the character and distinctiveness of our towns and villages is maintained and enhanced.
The Council takes good design and consistent decision making seriously and strives to achieve this from all development proposals.
Cllr Penny Channer, Chairman of Planning and Licensing Committee said “The Council has raised its expectations by ensuring well-designed development was the first strategic objective within the adopted Local Development Plan. The adoption of the Design Guide in December 2017 is the latest step on this journey to secure high quality design throughout the District.”
The Design Guide takes the reader through the process of designing a scheme from start to finish through a clear, succinct and legible structure that is visually stimulating. Common design issues are identified and potential solutions and links to additional resources and information are provided to assist the design process.
The Planning Awards 2018 take place in London on June 6th 2018.
