Consultation Dog Control Public Space Protection Order
Published on Friday, 1st June 2018
Maldon District Council would like your views on the creation of new Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO) regarding Dog Control across the District and in District parks and cemeteries.
As a Local Authority, we want to continue to promote responsible dog ownership and to provide authorised Officers with the tools and powers to educate and enforce where necessary. In response to concerns from the public, we are considering a range of amendments to our existing Dog Control PSPOs. Options include:
- Maintaining the current District-wide PSPO which makes it an offence not to pick up after a dog.
- Provide authorised Officers the power to request that individual dogs are kept on a lead if their behaviour is having or is likely to have a detrimental effect on the local community, or
- Making it an offence for any dog to be off its lead in specific areas, including our parks and cemeteries
- The creation of dog free zones which reinforce the current dog exclusion areas in children's play sites and extends to cover enclosed sports pitches, such as tennis courts, bowls lawns, etc
