Achieving Recovery Through Sports (A.R.T.S) is an organisation which has been set up to help support families and individuals suffering the effects of addiction. Event organiser Adam Smith strongly believes that promotion and participation in sport can help achieve addition recovery, this not only helps keep a healthy body but can help keep individuals in good mental health which is equally as important. A.R.T.S first fund raising event was a football tournament which was held on the Plume Academy artificial grass pitch, this was a keenly contested tournament with a number of local Maldon District Companies participating and helping raise money for the charity.

In total 12 businesses entered teams to battle it out to be the first A.R.T.S cup champions and the winning team was local building company, Ivybuild. This event marked the first in a series of events planned by A.R.T.S with other events to include a 5k sponsored run, golf day, snooker tournament, children’s sports and sports quizzes.

The day saw many companies and organisations within the Maldon District come together and support the launch of the charity which included the Plume Academy, Maldon District Council and Heybridge Swifts. The latter hosted the organisation for post tournament refreshments and a fund-raising raffle. In total an amazing £2000+ was raised which is a great start for a new charity that will be a valuable community asset.

Cllr Bob Boyce MBE, Chairman of the Council’s Community Services Committee, said, “What is great about the residents of the Maldon District is their willingness to come together and give their support to worthy causes such as this new charity, and embrace what it can offer to support people in times of need”
