Staff from our community protection team have taken part in Operation Overwatch with Essex Police.
Some of our Community Protection Officers tohether with Essex Police officers carried out vehicle roadside checks at 2 locations in Maldon, the police were targeting driving offences such as seatbelts/Mobile phones/drink, drug driving etc.
We were focussing on Commercial vehicles capable of carrying waste with a view to educating drivers/tradespeople the legal requirements of having a licence to lawfully carry waste and the correct disposal methods and documentation required, this is all part of a strategy to try and combat the problem of fly tipping..
Our results were:
26 vehicles stopped and checked in total
5 had correct licences/permit
8 notices served requested that licences are to be purchased within 28 days
13 advice given
All of the agencies involved have agreed that the day of action was a great success.
