Government Commends Maldon District Council’s Housing Delivery Test

Published on Tuesday, 25th February 2020

The Rt. Hon Robert Jenrick MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, has recently written to the Council to congratulate us on our housing delivery over the last three years.

The Housing Delivery Test was introduced in 2018 to provide transparency about where homes are needed and where they are delivered and from the figures just released the Council has delivered 100% of its housing requirement.

The Secretary of State commented that ‘our efforts should be a source of encouragement for other local authorities as it demonstrates what is possible when a local authority works with the community, to produce a local plan.  He also recognised the Councils ‘continued performance’ in delivering against the Government’s housing targets’.

Cllr Adrian Fluker, Leader of Maldon District Council, said; “Making sure we pass the Housing Delivery Test means we can use our approved Local Development Plan to protect the District from unwanted and speculative planning applications.

Moving forward, we will continue to work with developers to ensure that our strategic and other sites are delivered in a timely manner. This will allow us to protect our District and pass the delivery test on a year on year basis for the life of our Local Development Plan.”
