Published on Wednesday, 4th March 2020

The first meeting of a new group called the ‘Friends of Maldon Cemetery’ was held last week with the aim of working in partnership with Maldon District Council in the restoration, development, improvement and promotion of Maldon Cemetery.

The Friends of Maldon Cemetery will build on the excellent work which has been and will continue to be done by the dedicated band of volunteers and all those who tend the graves of their love ones.

The meeting was held in Chapel with Cllr Stephen Nunn setting the scene with an interesting historical overview of the Cemetery, followed by representatives of the already successfully formed Friends of Heybridge Cemetery, sharing some their experience of creating a Friends group.

Cllr Carlie Mayes who also attended this first meeting, said; “All those who came along were eager to be involved and work in partnership with the Council to ensure that Maldon Cemetery is maintained to the highest standard and is a respectful and peaceful place”.

The first event for the group, will be a ‘Get your hands dirty’ morning on Saturday 14 March, meeting at the chapel at 10am for two hours to tidy up after storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge!

If you would like to come along, please subscribe to the Friends mailing and Facebook page and come dressed in wellies and bring some protective gloves ready to get stuck in.”
