Essex County Council has opened a consultation this week on a new transport strategy for the Maldon District. The consultation is open from 12 June for 6 weeks.

The draft strategy has been created by Essex County Council in collaboration with Maldon District Council, the new Maldon District Future Transport Strategy looks at how we travel, the journeys we make and what the priority interventions should be in years to come.

Once finalised, the strategy will form a blueprint that will be used to identify, appraise and assess potential highway schemes, and provide evidence for funding bids.

Setting our three different zonal areas, the strategy identifies different priorities for the district’s town centres, strategic roads and rural and coastal areas.

Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: “I am delighted to see the Maldon District Future Transport Strategy consultation being launched. It is a longer term strategy that explores transport issues in the district and reviews what changes and investment could be made in the future, to tackle problems such as air pollution, congestion, public transport routes and frequency, as well as getting more people up and about, walking and cycling where they are able to.

“I hope we will be able to make the case for securing more funding from the Government to invest in our transport projects to make positive changes happen. This is an opportunity to plan for our sustainable transport needs and address climate action, I encourage residents to take part in this important consultation and to give their views.”

Consultation on the draft strategy opens from the 12 June for six weeks. The document is available to read on the strategy website at www.essexhighways.org/maldon-future-transport-strategy and hard copies will be made available at local public buildings.

Responses to the consultation can be submitted via the online survey link, in writing and returned to a FREEPOST address or can be emailed to activetravel@essexhighways.org
