Expenditure over £500
In June 2010 the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government wrote to all local authorities asking them to publish items of spending over £500.
The list of expenditure includes payments for goods and services, grants to third party providers and expenses. Certain payments such as those made to private individuals, for example, have been excluded from publication under the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Acts.
Exclusions from the list include the following items, although the list is not exhaustive:
- Banking investments
- Election staff payments
- Salary advances
- Councillors' allowances (published elsewhere)
- Payments relating to employee remuneration
- Payments relating to benefits and homelessness payments
