Applying for Other Council Tax Discounts

You may also be entitled to a Council Tax discount if you are:

Receiving Child Benefit

You must receive Child Benefit for an 18 or 19 year old in full-time education. You need to provide:

  • a child benefit letter; or,

  • a bank statement showing your  most recent child benefit payment

Apply for a Child Benefit Discount

School or College leavers

School or College leavers under 20 that have left full-time education between 30th April and before 1st November.  You need to provide:

  • a child benefit letter showing end date of award

Foreign Language Assistant

You must be registered with the British Council. You need to provide:

  • evidence of your registration

Diplomat

You need to provide:

  • evidence to confirm your status

Member of a Visiting Force

You need to provide:

  • evidence to confirm your status

Member of a Religious Community

You must have no income, no capital and be dependant on the community.  You need to provide:

  • evidence to confirm your status

In Hospital, Prison or other place

You must be in this place as a result of a court order.  You need to provide:

  • evidence of court order and
  • address of accommodation

Apply for an In Hospital, Prison or other place discount

All residents under 18

You and all other residents must be under 18.  You need to provide:

  • birth certificates or
  • passports for all residents

Apply for other council tax discounts.  You will need to select Council Tax, add your Council Tax account number, this is the 9 digits beginning with 6 at the top of your Council Tax bill.
